Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall '06: Jennifer Nicholson

Jennifer Nicholson returned to the runway in Los Angeles after showing in New York for the past three seasons. The designer’s March 22 show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios got a late start while Nicholson waited for her famous father, Jack, to arrive.

The designer said the time was right for a homecoming. “[L.A.] is my hometown and I just felt it was time to come back and do it here—it’s close to home with the kids,” Nicholson said.

For Fall ’06, Nicholson combined inspiration from childhood fairytales with pirate styling to create the dark, yet sweet look. “I always have pirate influence in some way,” she said, “and I got to really milk my pirate influence this time.”

In a palette of black, cream, blue, purple and gold, the collection included a mixture of stripes, polka dots, lace, velvet and metallic fabrications. Dresses were lighthearted with whimsical prints. Babydoll dresses were sweet trimmed in lace and sailor vests and blouses were paired with knee-length pants with lace-up closures—a la “Peter Pan.” Stand-out pieces included a three-tier sparkle dress, a gold princess coat paired with a striped pant and a short scrunchy lace dress. —N.
