Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall '06: Valeria Marini
Italian actress-turned-designer Valeria Marini channeled classic bombshells for her new line, Seduzioni Diamonds by Valeria Marini. Comprised mainly of red carpet–worthy gowns, the line put an unapologetic focus on sex appeal. Builtin bras were embellished, their straps studded with bling of all sorts. Lace insets, lingerie-inspired detailing, miles of leg and cut-to-there cleavage even drew catcalls from the photographer pit.
Marini also showed more-demure looks, including a black satin fishtail skirt paired with a snug black sweater and a kneelength frock with lace cap sleeves. Slip dresses were shown in mohair, silk jersey and cashmere.
A last-minute addition to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios, the March 23 show included a good-girl cashmere blazer trimmed in lace and a noir dressing gown dripping with fur pelts. —Erin Barajas
