Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall '06: Yana K

Yana Khromova, the 22-year-old designer of Yana K, is bursting at the seams with ideas. At Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios March 23, the designer added an eighth collection, named “Audrey,” to her roster of mini-collections that are sold at her retail store on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles and at specialty boutiques. Some of the other collections sold in her store include a reconstructed vintage group and a group made from cotton fabric.

For the Audrey collection, the Russian-born designer was inspired by silver screen icons Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe, and the looks of the1950s and 1960s.

The collection covered a broad range of shapes and was highlighted by Khromova showing cute 1950s shapes with rounded collars, covered buttons and bows.

Khromova chose fabrics that were “very elegant, very soft, very feminine” in butter yellow, aqua blue, melon, metallic champagne and classic black and white. Floral prints and various embroidered floral patterns added texture to dropwaist party dresses and long gowns with tiers of ruffles.

Though dresses dominated the collection, the designer also included a handful of ladylike suit sets. —Rhea Cortado
