Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall '06: Yanuk

Silver chain jewelry, Converse tennis shoes and army boots adorned the models who walked the post-modern runway for Yanuk’s debut showing March 21 during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios. The runway set the stage for the apocalyptic underground look of the collection by designer Benjamin Taverniti. The show was used as a platform to present the new look of the premium denim line, which is part of Blue Holdings’ stable of brands.

The collection, in a subdued, sophisticated palette of neutral gray, black and washed-out color, had a rebellious yet sophisticated rock ’n’ roll feel.

The French designer included pieces from his couture N.E.O. of L.A. line and created one-of-a-kind pieces to help illustrate the new direction of Yanuk.

Long cashmere and silk pieced sweaters were worn over draped jersey tops; tanks and thermals were layered over skinny distressed jeans. Tattered corset dresses were worn over leggings and distressed-leather jackets were given the couture treatment with intricate ruching and zipper details. —N. Jayne Seward
