Spanish Retailer to Host Seminar

Spanish clothing retailer Zara, known for its quick-turning supply chain, will provide insight into its success at a “fast fashion” seminar June 2 at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles.

Zara has seen its annual sales grow 20 percent. The retailer is highly regarded for its short lead times and efficient supply chain. Zara has 852 stores in 60 countries and plans to open 130 more units by the end of the year. Locally, it has units in San Francisco, Santa Monica and Costa Mesa.

The workshop, which is being co-hosted by TC2, a Cary, N.C.–based firm specializing in technology development and supply chain improvements, will address how Zara achieves less than 1 percent inefficiencies in its product development process, which results in lean inventories and markdowns well below the industry average.

Other topics include key strategies for meeting consumer demand for fashion and a discussion about how the Zara model can be applied to other retail models.

The workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 919 S. Grand Ave. The registration fee is $200; lunch will be provided.
