Tukatech Gives Dress Forms the Soft Touch

Los Angeles–based technology provider Tukatech Inc. has released a new generation of its “Soft Flesh” dress forms, which are especially designed for the innerwear and swimwear markets.

The forms are made from ultra-soft state-of-the-art materials and are designed to replicate the feel of the human form. The aim is to help designers and product developers provide for more accurate fits for all types of garments, especially swimwear, bras and other intimate apparel, said the company’s chief executive officer, Ram Sareen.

The soft texture is able to pick up the stress points and constriction that come with bikini straps and undergarments. They also help speed up the product development process, explained Sareen.

“Our objective is to reduce time and cost of product development time. TukaForms allow us to have a fit model at every manufacturing facility in the world,” he said.

Manufacturers and retailers with private-label programs have been using the forms at their factories to enable designers to test garments before sending sewn samples for fitting on live fit models. The same body is also available in digital format and can be used to electronically fit a virtual garment to see how the garment will fit before a sample is cut and sewn through products like Tukatech’s TukaCAD and e-fit simulator.

Once the look and fit are approved, the pattern files can be used to cut and sew the first and final sample that will fit exactly the same as it showed electronically, explained Sareen. If it is being developed off-site in factories overseas, TukaForms play a very important role, as the final sample can be tested on TukaForms, compared with the electronic model and sent to designers for first and final fittings, he added.

The forms are being used by Frederick’s of Hollywood, Parisa USA, Charming Shoppes and Lane Bryant, among others. For more information, visit www.tukatech.com. —Robert McAllister
