Inspiration: Paris, Location: Hollywood

Los Angeles–based designer Angela Dean debuted her Spring 2007 line of Deanzign evening and cocktail dresses Nov. 11 at the Scientology Celebrity Centre in Los Angeles. Dean, whose muse was a “Paris to Hollywood” theme, showed elegant dresses in black, white and vibrant jewel tones.

A collection of all-black dresses opened the show. One simple long-sleeve, floor-length gown got a dose of sex appeal with an open back and a layer of clear sequins for a glossy latex look. A warm gray coat dress with an oversize collar looked elegant and fresh. Bubble shapes were found in a floor-length taffeta ball skirt and a strapless mini-dress with a banded bottom. Embellishments came in the form of mounds of fabric rosettes or a hint of tulle fringe.

A second grouping featured black-and-white designs. One day dress featured alternating stripes of gathered black-and-white chiffon. Dean showed a recurring floral black-and-white print on cocktail dresses.

A collection of brilliantly hued dresses and jumpsuits closed the show. A purple Grecian-style gown with a jeweled brooch was a standout piece. —Erin Barajas
