L.A. Fashion Week Spring '07: Samora

Feminine frills and romantic fancy ruled the runway at Samora’s Spring 2007 runway presentation at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif., on Oct. 18.

Designer Summer Olayan married the simplicity of everyday house dressing, as inspired by the feminine costumes in Louisa May Alcott’s 19th-century novel “Little Women,” with complex tailoring. An earth-toned palette showed depth through texture, such as white Swiss dot, taupe eyelet, pink floral-printed lace and starched white mini pleats.

Lacy details highlighted the delicate, feminine side of the collection. A skirt with tiers of scalloped lace trim at the hem resembled knee-length vintage bloomer pants for a girly touch. A flouncy long embroidered lace skirt was made more sophisticated when paired with a high-collared blouse.

Some of the best looks balanced the domestic inspiration and modern styling. A taupe apron skirt was paired with a sweet eyelet bustier to show just the right amount of skin, and a blue iridescent ruffled shirt coat, which could have easily covered an empire waist dress for a walk in the countryside, was instead paired with plaid bubble shorts for a modern look. —Rhea Cortado
