L.A. Fashion Week Spring '07: Yana K.

Like a storybook come to life, designer Yana Khromova filled her catwalk with little-rich-girl petticoat frocks reminiscent of a Shirley Temple extravaganza. The Oct. 19 Yana K. show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif., featured oversize collars, candy-colored jewel appliqueacute;s, layers of lace, Little Bo Peep dresses and ruffles galore, which sent the theatrical collection over the top.

Always one to show a variety of styles, Khromova also showed much more wearable pieces in the form of chic separates and pretty dresses. Black high-waist pants with gold buttons down the leg paired perfectly with a sheer blouse, and a black-and-white mini dress with a banded bottom was cute and wearable.

Layering was key to the Yana K. Spring 2007 line. Bubble skirts featured two layers, floor-length dresses featured threetiered skirts over a hoop skirt, and a dress with a cinched waist featured three identical belts. —Erin Barajas
