San Francisco Fashion Week '06: Anazara

Croatia-born Ana Paunovic launched her swimwear line in her homeland in 2003 and has finally brought it to the United States. Her mostly two-piece creations, made out of Lycra and nylon, come in bright colors such as hot pink, orange, red and turquoise, which are worked together in color blocks. She willtake a bright pink and combine it with vivid orange accents. Or she will marry a bright pink fabric with blocks of deep navy blue.

“I usually start with shapes I think would look interesting on the body, and then I add color to it,” said the young designer, who went to college in Boston. The effect is a sort of Mondrian tableau transferred to fabric. Her bikini tops are shaped into bandeaus, halters and triangles, while the bottoms have moderate coverage with some side ties.
