San Francisco Fashion Week '06: Richard Hallmarq

It was three years ago that Sacramento-based designer Richard Hallmarq launched his first men’s and womenswear collection, which has become known for its cutting edge when it comes to style and fabric. In his Spring/Summer 2007 collection, called Phantasmagoria, black was the predominant color in his sexy one-piece outfits made of a leather-like fabric. Knee-length dresses were ruched around the skirt; jumpsuits had dramatic off-the-shoulder looks or daring down-to-the-navel plunges. If black wasn’t the fabric of choice, then wild-animal prints were substituted. Men’s swimsuits came in bright lavender faux snakeskin. A woman’s ruffled top with gold trim topped a leopard-print skirt ready for a night out on the town.
