New York Fashion Week: Jeremy Scott

Leave it to designer Jeremy Scott to find shock value in teddy bears. The Los Angeles–based designer showed his latest collection of men’s and women’s apparel on Sept. 15 at the Altman Building as part of the People’s Revolution alternative lineup during New York Fashion Week.

The designer cited patriotism as his inspiration, and the result ranged from whimsy to snarling satire.

The collection featured graphics of cute and cuddly teddy bears wearing bandoliers and toting rifles. The theme was echoed in an original leaf print featuring the heavily armed bears lounging in hammocks and climbing in trees. Other original prints included geometric renderings of bullets and fighter jets.

The prints turned up on capelets and trousers, rompers and swimsuits. Models wore missileshaped earrings and camouflage makeup, and Scott topped many of his ensembles with black military helmets embellished with mouse ears.

The designer’s likeness turned up on a graphic of a $1 million bill.

In perhaps his most political statement, Scott showed a T-shirt graphic with an image of the Statue of Liberty with a skull for a face and a crown of missiles.
