Academy of Art to Honor Posen, de la Falaise
Designers Loulou de la Falaise and Zac Posen will receive honorary doctorates of humane letters from the School of Fashion at Academy of Art University in San Francisco during a ceremony and fashion show April 27.
Fashion editor Robin Givhan of The Washington Post will also participate in the ceremony, which will be conducted by university President Elisa Stephens.
French designer de la Falaise designed accessories at Yves Saint Laurent for 30 years before branching out into ready-to-wear following Saint Laurent’s retirement. New York–based Posen has quickly become in demand, especially at award shows, where his throwback Hollywood gowns have attracted A-list celebrities. Givhan won the Pulitzer Prize for criticism in 2006.
The guests, along with designer Maria Cornejo and Bacchus PR director Charlotte Lurot, will address the student body in a panel discussion and later view portfolios and design work to be considered for internships and new hires. A graduation fashion show open to the students, staff and the public will take place at 3 p.m., and an invitation-only industry fashion show and ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. at 601 Brannan St. —R.M.
