Eleksen Opens Bay Area Office

United Kingdom–based Eleksen Group Plc., which markets “smart fabrics” that integrate iPods and other electronic devices into clothing, has opened new offices in San Francisco and Hong Kong.

The company is known for its ElekTex touch-sensitive keypad, which enables clothing to interface with iPods, MP3 players and other devices. Licensees include O’Neill, Spyder and Zegna, which have used the product for jackets, backpacks and other gear.

Eleksen sold 300,000 units in 2006. To accommodate growth, it has opened offices in Hong Kong and at 795 Folsom St. in San Francisco.

“With demand for wearable technology growing swiftly worldwide, it became eminently clear that these new San Francisco and Hong Kong facilities were a necessity to keep us ahead of the curve,” said Chief Executive Officer Robin Shephard. —Robert McAllister
