Filly Hosts Quail Trunk Show

It was an inadvertent woodland creature–themed party on April 19 at Filly on West Third Street in Los Angeles. The specialty boutique Filly hosted a trunk show for Long Beach, Calif.–based clothing line Quail on April 19. The party featured a live performance by the band Sparrow Love Crew. Co-owners and buyers J’nai Cameron and Rachel Bratcher opened their 1,000-square-foot store, which favors “taste and tone over trends and brand names,” in July 2006. Before they partnered to open Filly, Cameron was the manager at Lifesize, the Fred Segal kids’ store in Santa Monica, Calif., and Bratcher was a manufacturer of products for the gift and home industry. For the event, Quail’s Modal/Lycra dresses and drapey tops were available to Filly shoppers one month before they shipped to other stores. Michelle Nguyen, designer of Quail, outfitted the models in oxford shoes to add a masculine touch to the girly dresses. “I’m not a full-fledged feminine designer. I like to balance things a little,” Nguyen said.—Rhea Cortado
