Tulula & Under has relocated to the California Market Center. Previously based at the Cooper Design Space, proprietor Jenny von Holtermann has taken her cashmere line, Tulula, and her tops line, Under, across the street to a larger and more-visible showroom.
“I think the buyers have better access here. There are more elevators,” she said.
Tulula is a 10-year-old cashmere line featuring sweaters and a variety of uniquely configured wraps and tops, all designed by von Holtermann and manufactured at her company’s factory, based near Shanghai, China.
Because of its vertical operation, she can keep wholesale prices in the $90 to $120 range.
The line is dominated by cashmere but features some variations. A moto vest lined with lambswool for $108 has been hot and was picked up by Henri Bendel among others.
Under is a 4-year-old line featuring Modal and bamboo tops and dresses. Prices start at $11 for tees up to $42 for Modal dresses. A cross-strap cami is among the more in-demand pieces, with some stores placing orders for it every day, said von Holtermann.
The showroom also carries Sir Alistair Rai, an up-and-coming line from Arizona designer Kiran Rai, who embellishes tees and tops with messages from Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr., among others. The year-old line already has a strong celebrity following. Angelina Jolie has been spotted wearing a black wrap dress, and Drew Barrymore brings her East Indian–inspired “Love” scarf on trips to New York.
Von Holtermann has recently begun doing some of the company’s production. Regan Scott is repping the line from the Tulula showroom.
The latest addition to the CMC has already received lots of traffic. “There’s not pressure here. We make it easy for the buyers just to walk in,” said von Holtermann. “It’s great because we use their input whenever we can.” —Robert McAllister
