FBI Gets $97k Grant
Fashion Business Inc. has been awarded a $97,000 grant by the city of Los Angeles to provide consulting services to apparel manufacturers in the city.
The grant, a “growth industry contract,” is aimed at spurring growth in the city’s manufacturing core, which has become the country’s largest garment manufacturing center, recently overtaking New York.
City officials said more than 66,000 jobs in Los Angeles County originate from the apparel industry, with an estimated $3.5–$3.8 billion in transactions conducted in 2005.
FBI will use the grant to provide consulting services to 10 companies within Los Angeles’ Empowerment Zone: Couture, The Clothing Co.; Stop Staring! Clothing; Evans Group L.A.; Jnker Designs; Mimi and Maggie; Left Coast Clothing Inc.; Ed Hardy Shoes; World Linen & Textile Co. Inc.; H&S International Inc.; and Notice.
The nonprofit trade organization provides new and established companies with resources and training to better compete in the global apparel marketplace. For more information, visit www.fashionbizinc.org.
