San Francisco Fashion Week '07: Genevieve Primavera

San Francisco’s urban environment and unique architecture played a major part in Mary-Elizabeth Primavera’s Spring/Summer 2008 collection.

“San Francisco is a lot more romantic and eccentric than Los Angeles and New York, and I tried to capture that,” said the designer, who lives in San Jose, Calif.

Primavera played with asymmetrical looks, such as an off-the-shoulder blouse with one long sleeve or a linen jacket with buckles on the side and with one black sleeve and one beige sleeve. Her linen mini-dresses had wide black panels mixed in with either yellow, pink or chartreuse panels. Even the models looked like architectural constructions, with hairpieces coiled on top of their heads, resembling Coit Tower on Telegraph Hill.

The designer chose a bold palette for Spring with lots of chartreuse, salmon and bright pinks as well as black and white.
