San Francisco Fashion Week '07: Onerary

Bridges are the connecting forces between Onerary’s two designers.

Danielle DeRoberts lives in San Francisco and Katy Parnello resides in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Their symbol, an artistic image of a bridge that represents the Golden Gate Bridge and the Brooklyn Bridge, graced many of their avant-garde creations, which served as functional urban fashion.

Art was predominant throughout the collection, with patches of fabric covered with sketches and then sewn on to the front of a jacket or a pair of pants. There were plenty of asymmetrical looks, with uneven handkerchief hems and tops cinched on the side.

Creativity was the name of the game, and several looks appeared to have been forged in an artist’s loft late one night. That was seen in a pin-striped short with a ripped hem worn over pin-striped pants. A quilted green ankle-length dress with a hoodie had a fairy-tale look to it.

Onerary had some of the most imaginative creations on the runway, living up to San Francisco’s reputation as a place that doesn’t march in step with other locales. —Deborah Belgum
