San Francisco Fashion Week '07: Pink Elf

Kaushie Adiseshan took her cue for her Spring/Summer 2008 collection from her native India, using metallic fabrics that had a glittery feel to them. “Quite a few of the pieces are inspired by the Indian sari,” said the Palo Alto designer, who displayed her designs during Lakme Indian Fashion Week in Bombay, India, in March.

Bright colors—such as orange, purple and green—were mixed in with more subdued whites and yellows. The designer used printed silks, knits and lots of Modal for creations that would be just right for a steamy summer afternoon.

Common threads running through the collection were traditional Indian embellishments called ari and zardozi, applied on metallic-looking, embroidered sashes or at the neck.

Dresses were a popular silhouette as were wide-legged pants and culottes. —Deborah Belgum
