San Francisco Fashion Week '07: Velvet Leaf
Sisters Laura and Beck Carter of Placerville, Calif., set out to create a line of clothing that would embrace the organic-fiber movement. Sustainability is their calling card, which was seen on a runway filled with natural, comfortable fabrics.
Jumpers, dresses, shorts and high-waisted pants made up most of the collection done by the emerging designers, who aren’t even old enough to go to a bar yet.
They played with oversize buttons to grace jumpers and dresses. Wide-legged pants were cuffed at the bottom. Everything had an easy air to it, as if it could be shaken from a suitcase and thrown on at a moment’s notice.
Silhouettes were sleek, and very few embellishments were seen.
Their colors were subtle and soft, such as light yellow, beige, taupe and olive green. Some bold purples and pinks were thrown in to shake up the color spectrum. —Deborah Belgum
