Young Designers Dominate San Francisco Fashion Week

The fourth season of San Francisco Fashion Week was marked by a host of new and young designers launching their lines and getting their first exposure to the runway.

The annual event began on Aug. 22 with a Gen Art show at the Regency Center on Sutter Street and then moved over to the Galleria at the San Francisco Design Center south of Market Street on Aug. 23 for three nights of fashion shows inside the tall brick building, which has a central courtyard perfect for viewing fashion.

Erika Gessin, who runs Mystery Girl Productions, is the founder of San Francisco Fashion Week, which has been a work in progress.

The show originally started out at the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre, but its auditorium-like seating made it difficult for everyone to view the fashions.

The move to the Galleria has boosted attendance, which was estimated to be about 700 people a night.
