Levi's Haas to Retire

Robert Hass, a descendent of Levi Strauss & Co. founder Levi Strauss, will retire as company chairman of the board after 18 years in that position. He will remain on the board as a director with the honorary title of chairman emeritus.

Board member T. Gary Rogers will take over as chairman of the board in February. At the end of the year, Rogers is retiring as chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream after 30 years with the company.

This will mark the first time in Levi’s history that the 154-year-old denim giant does not have a family member at the helm. Haas has been with the company for 35 years, including 15 as chief executive officer. He said he plans to “devote more time to other aspects of my life, including my family and our philanthropic interests.” —Alison A. Nieder
