Palazzo Hotel to Open in Time for MAGIC

Visitors to the February 2008 edition of the MAGIC Marketplace and satellite shows in Las Vegas will have a chance to get a glimpse of the city’s latest hotel/retail spectacle, the Palazzo, a 3,000-suite hotel and casino anchored by The Shoppes at Palazzo, a $580 million shopping center set between the Sands Expo Center and The Venetian hotel.

An 85,000-square-foot Barneys New York will anchor the new 450,000-square-foot center and will be joined by 60 boutiques, including Chloe, Tory Burch, Christian Louboutin, Diane von Furstenberg, Van Cleef & Arpels, Catherine Malandrino, Anya Hindmarch, Jimmy Choo, Burberry, Ferragamo, Fendi and Michael Kors. The hotel will be in a key position central to several apparel-industry shows, including the Project Global Trade Show at the Sands and the new MRket (formerly The Exclusive) menswear show at The Venetian.

The $2.1 billion Palazzo hotel/casino is scheduled to open Dec. 20 and be followed by the Jan. 18 retail launch. The Las Vegas Sands Corp. is the developer but will turn over the retail element to Chicago-based real estate investment trust General Growth Properties, which agreed to acquire the new venue as part of its 2004 deal to acquire The Venetian’s Canal Shoppes for $776 million. General Growth also owns the Fashion Show mall in Las Vegas and Glendale Galleria mall in Glendale, Calif.

In addition to the hotel and retail element, the Palazzo next spring will open a theater in which the Tony-winning “Jersey Boys” musical will be staged. A Las Vegas version of the famous New York–based 40/40 nightclub, developed by hip-hop star Jay Z, will open around the same time. The dining element will include several celebrity-chef venues, including CUT restaurant by Wolfgang Puck, Table 10 by Emeril Lagasse, CarneVino by Mario Batali, and Restaurante Charlie by Charlie Trotter.
