Montclair Plaza Set for Renovations

Montclair Plaza, a 1.3 million-square-foot regional mall in California’s Inland Empire, is getting a makeover.

Executives from the Chicago-based owner, General Growth Properties, said work will begin next month on the 40-year-old center, which is anchored by the Inland Valley’s only Nordstrom store. The 134,000-squarefoot Nordstrom unit will be the initial target of renovations, including updated entrances, fixtures and lighting as well as upgraded dressing rooms and tiling. The renovation is expected to be completed in November 2008.

The owner also plans to add 200 stores to an area formerly occupied by Macy’s. The new wing will be configured in a lifestyle setting with upscale eateries, retailers and entertainment. Other improvements will be made to the mall’s food court, the center court and interiors.

The renovation will be the first at the mall in 20 years. The center, located off Interstate 10, is in a key position to take advantage of the lack of retail offerings in the east Los Angeles corridor as well as immediate traffic in the Inland Valley. According to state demographics, the I-10 is among the most traveled routes in the country. —Robert McAllister
