Single Launches Single Girls at MAGIC

Little girls who dress up in their mother’s pearls and high heels can now complete the outfit with a dress by Single Girls when women’s contemporary line Single launches its new tween line at the MAGIC Marketplace in Las Vegas this month.

The Single Girls line was inspired by Single founder Galina Sobolev’s 9-year-old daughter, Sara, who complained that there weren’t any hip tops or dresses in her section of the stores and asked her mother to make her some dresses.

Sobolev shrunk down Single’s signature flowing kimono- sleeve dresses and sassy halter dresses in the same silk charmeuse and silk chiffon original-print fabrics for her daughter. Soon afterwards, Bloomingdale’s approached Sobolev about launching a girls’ dress line because of the success of Single’s dresses in the contemporary dress department. Single Girls shipped exclusively to Bloomingdale’s last December, and Sobolev already has appointments lined up with children’s specialty stores at MAGIC in Single’s booth in the Pedestal section.

“We’re basically covering the 8- to 14-year-old market,” Sobolev said. “We realize that these girls are looking at the Lindsey Lohans of this world and wanting to dress like them. They’re looking at their young moms and wanting to dress like that.”

Sobolev said that there are many choices for tweens in the premium-denim and casual contemporary market with brands such as True Religion and Juicy Couture, which have kids’ lines.

“For us now in contemporary dresses, nobody’s really doing anything like that.” Sobolev said. “We’re really excited. It’s a wonderful new niche for us.”

Single Girls builds upon the growing stable of brands under the Single umbrella, including the dress line Single Dress and the young designer line Sin.

Wholesale price points for Single Girls range from $72 to $83 for silk charmeuse and silk chiffon dresses in original eclectic prints and scarf prints. For more information, call the Theresa Matthew Studio in suite 602 of The New Mart in Los Angeles at (213) 486-0045. —Rhea Cortado
