Iconix Buys Another Brand

Iconix Brand Group Inc., the New York company that has been gobbling up brand names across the country, agreed to purchase the Danskin name for $70 million.

As part of the deal, Danskin, also based in New York, will have a licensing agreement with Iconix to continue to operate its Danskin stores, its e-tail Web site and wholesale business. “The transaction will provide capital for growth of the Danskin wholesale business and, at the same time, monetize its intellectual properties,” said Danskin Chairman Donald Schupak in a statement. The deal is expected to close in March.

Recently, Iconix acquired such Los Angeles brands as Rampage and Mossimo. Its other brands include Joe Boxer, Bongo, London Fog, Badgley Mischka and Candie’s. —D.B.
