Rosa Chaacute; Swim Spring '08

Rosa Chaacute; designer Amir Slama took a unique approach to presenting his collection of sexy swimwear and resortwear July 11 at The Raleigh hotel for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Miami Swim in Miami Beach, Fla. Rather than strut down the runway, Slama’s models posed on a platform, surrounded by photographers, buyers and press.“I decided this time to make a kind of presentation, something more relaxed, and show some flashes of my resort collection—pieces that I really believe are important. In many ways I think it fits a little more with the Miami mood,” Slama said. The collection, named “Movements,” took inspiration from art movements of the past, including Surrealism and Dadaism. The Brazilian line, known for using non-traditional fabrics in its swimwear, featured woven shirting material and jersey in its 2008 collection. Key pieces included draped, Grecian-style bubble dresses and bikinis and maillots festooned with fabric and jeweled appliqueacute;s. Hues for the line ranged from neon yellow to dusty sage and melon. A unifying theme was the use of intricate details, including basket weaves, pin-tucks, elaborate draping and handmade fabric flowers.—Erin Barajas
