MKP Development Expands Production, Sample Making

Los Angeles–based MKP Development LLC, which provides production and sample-making services to the apparel industry, has relocated and expanded its operations.

The company has moved to 818 S. Broadway, suite 801, in the Los Angeles Fashion District. It was previously located in a smaller facility on Ninth Street.

Led by Maria Krizova, the company last year formed a joint venture with pattern-making specialist A-Plus Patterns to offer a broader range of services and help designers from the concept stage to production handoff, said Krizova.

“About 75 percent of our clients are start-ups, so they need help in a lot of areas,” she said.

The combined operation now offers technical design services, including providing initial tech packs, sewing instructions and templates; patterns and prototypes; patterns, markers and grading; line sheets, costing and production calendars.

Both Krizova and A-Plus’ Bruce Walters are certified trainers in PAD System Technologies Master Pattern Design software.

“We are fairly unique in the local garment industry because no one really provides the end-to-end services that we do,” said Krizova.

The company has worked with a number of local labels, including Tart, Yana K. and others.

Krizova said she helps a lot of young designers learn to understand the nuances of apparel production, such as how certain fabrics work with various constructions and how to manage production timelines.

The company has joined the Garment Contractors Association and is part of the GCA’s directory. It has also been reaching out to fashion colleges, providing various services.
