Cherokee's Global Growth

Van Nuys–based licensor and brand management company Cherokee Inc. is planning to expand its global reach over the next year to Saudi Arabia, Chile and Peru through partnerships with Fawaz Al Hokair/Geant in Saudi Arabia and S.A.C.I. Falabella in South America. Cherokee Inc., which owns several brands—including Cherokee, Sideout and Carole Little—has licensing agreements with several international retailers, including Target Stores and Mervyn’s in the United States; TJX Cos. in the United States, Canada and Europe; Tesco in the United Kingdom, Ireland and certain other European and Asian countries; Zellers in Canada; Pick ’n Pay in South Africa; Fawaz Al Hokair in the Middle East; S.A.C.I. Falabella in Chile and Peru; Comercial Mexicana in Mexico; and Shanghai Bolderway in China. The company’s most recent deal is with Tesco, which carries Cherokee-brand merchandise in more than 450 Tesco stores in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Within the last year, Tesco began carrying Cherokee goods in more than 260 Tesco stores in Central Europe, and the U.K. retailer is in the process of rolling out Cherokee product in its stores in China, South Korea, Thailand and Malaysia.
