Libertine, Jovovich- Hawk Go Fast Fashion

Having made their mark in high-end fashion, two Los Angeles–based brands are collaborating with retailers to bring their looks to the masses.

Jovovich-Hawk, one of last year’s nominees for a Council of Fashion Designers of America award, has struck a deal with Spanish retailer MNG by Mango. Libertine, a winner of an Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation award in 2004, has inked a deal with Minneapolis-based discounter Target Corp.

Jovovich-Hawk, the brainchild of model/actress Milla Jovovich and model/designer Carmen Hawk, will debut a collection of 10 looks for European fast-fashion retailer MNG by Mango in April. The duo’s limitededition capsule collection will feature a 1940s-style cocktail dress, floaty silk voile frocks, day dresses, satin gowns and mod shifts that will sell in 400 of the chain’s stores. Focused on designer-inspired apparel, shoes and handbags, Mango opened its first stateside store last May in Costa Mesa, Calif. Jovovich will also act as the face of the company for Mango’s Spring/Summer 2007 ad campaign.

In July, Libertine’s Johnson Hartig and Cindy Greene will follow in the footprints of New York–based designer brands Proenza Schouler and Behnaz Sarafpour to debut a collaboration with the Target Corp. as part of the retailer’s Go International program. Sold online and at Target stores, the Go International collaborations draw fashion-loving shoppers to the mass retailer.

No word yet on what the Libertine collection will look like, but Hartig, reached at his studio in Los Angeles, said he was excited about the collaboration.
