L.A. Fashion Week Fall '07: Copenhagen Kasbah
“Classic details of the menswear world” inspired Copenhagen Kasbah’s creative director, Tim Meicker, for his Fall 2007 womenswear collection, shown March 16 at Kitten Fashion Week at The Standard Downtown in Los Angeles.
Meicker’s tailored clothing line combines the sophistication of his modern city home, Copenhagen, Denmark, with a dense urban slant, as inspired by African Kasbahs. The Kasbah essence was subtly seasoned on a pair of satin pants with a low crotch, taken from the shape of Turkish pants and through the feeling of rawness, such as a skin-baring open-weave argyle knit on a metallic silver-flecked sweater.
In the vein of sharp tuxedo dressing and menswear suiting, Meicker stuck to a palette of simple ivory white and black, with metallic yarn and sequin flourishes. A white square-neck top trimmed with sequined ribbon brought a relaxed ease to a pair of trousers with a satin stripe along the side. Vertical buttons resembling the front of a collared shirt put a sophisticated twist on a metallic bubble miniskirt, and formal covered buttons on the shoulders added an extra touch of class to a low draping satin dress. —Rhea Cortado
