Trade Only at CMC's Markets
The California Market Center announced plans to limit access to the building to only trade and tenants during market weeks.
CMC executives plan to make the change gradually over several markets, beginning with the March 23–27 Los Angeles Fashion Market, when security officers will be stationed at each elevator, asking buyers to register.
At the June 8–12 market, the CMC will require everyone to wear a form of identification— either a badge or a sticker—in order to access upper floors of the building. Badges will be made available prior to market, and all attendees will be required to register to receive a badge or sticker.
By the Oct. 26–30 market, the building will be completely closed to all except trade and tenants. Security personnel will require identification from all visitors, and everybody must wear a badge or sticker while in the building.
Previously registered buyers have already been informed about the new policy. The CMC is asking its tenants to provide management with contact information for new buyers in order to add them to the building’s database and advise them on the new policy.
The building is also considering a shift in market dates from Friday through Tuesday to Sunday through Wednesday. —Alison A. Nieder
