L.A. Fashion Week Fall '07: Directives West

Los Angeles–based retail consultancy Directives West summed up the trends for Fall ’07 at its March 23 runway show at the California Market Center.

Titled “California Chic,” the show opened with a segment devoted to Los Angeles labels Single, Sin and Single Dress. For Fall ’07, Single designer Galina Sobolev offered plenty of her signature placement prints in Autumn jewel tones on tunics and short dresses. There were swingy baby-doll dresses in knit jersey and lace, as well as sleek tailored trousers. Sobolev also showcased her girls’ dress line, which features miniature versions of her printed silk and lace dresses.

Directives West opened its forecast with a yellow meacute;lange sweater from Dex over Rich & Skinny’s orange skinny jean. Other trends in knitwear included a kimono/cape from Gabriella and a long cable-knit coat from Cynthia Vincent.

Denim trends ran the gamut from skinny styles to trouser cuts. In addition to traditional indigo, jeans came in rainbow shades and metallic finishes.

Robert Rodriguez’s gray cap-sleeve jumper summed up Directives’ “Androgeny” trend, which featured suitings and menswear fabrics.

And mod looks—from graphic-print dresses to sequined cocktail dresses—continued to be strong. For David Meister, mod meant a swing dress in a geographic circle print. For WD.NY, the look was silver sequins. —Alison A. Nieder
