L.A. Fashion Week Fall '07: Kevan Hall

Designer Kevan Hall took fashionistas on a European journey as they crammed into seats to see his Fall 2007 collection at a March 22 show that closed Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif.

To set the mood, the catwalk was turned into a mock runway complete with blinking blue lights on the side that illuminated a show that was ready for take off.

For inspiration, Hall looked to the urban jet-setting woman ready to take off to London, Paris and points in between.

She’s a chic, tony woman who likes her clothes to evoke the sophisticated life she leads. “She has a very luxurious lifestyle,” Hall said. “And we have added to our collection some pretty day looks that will take her from coast to coast and abroad.”

Hall is renowned for his red-carpet gowns and upscale looks honed during his stint as design and creative director at Halston. The collection started with a dark wool jumpsuit paired with a reversible cashmere coat and then continued to high-waisted trousers and suits with pencil skirts. Dresses were often belted with a bow tied right above the waist, letting the skirt flare out.

For evening dresses, Hall played with various silhouettes and vivid colors, such as amethyst, emerald green, lapis blue and rose. Several evening dresses were topped with fur, from a fox cape atop an ultra-suede jean and cashmere tee to chinchilla sleeves on a dark-gray plunge-neck chiffon gown. —Deborah Belgum
