L.A. Fashion Week Fall '07: Thrive

Thrive’s philosophy to fashion is to take a non-traditional approach to style and let new ideas flourish.

The label didn’t disappoint when it showed its Fall/Winter 2007 collection on March 22 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif.

This was the first runway show for Thrive under the design guidance of Diane Moss-Martin, who also is part of the design duo at MartinMartin. The two labels work in side-by-side offices in downtown Los Angeles, allowing Moss-Martin to split her time evenly.

The designer’s theme this season was “Flowers in the Garden of Consciousness,” giving her room to do graphics about humanity and world peace. Her creations combined modernism with romanticism in a lineup that had a sprinkling of men’s fashions.

The result was a breezy, casual look for clothes that had a certain edge to them. That was highlighted by the ghost-like makeup worn by the models.

Thrive’s collection ranged from dresses with spaghetti straps and empire waists to high-waisted pencil skirts and skinny-legged denim with zippers. Several skirts and dresses had bubble hems that made them float down the catwalk.

Plenty of cashmere was employed for tops and skirts, leather for jackets and bottoms, and silk charmeuse for skirts, tops and dresses. Jacquard was seen in things such as a navy-blue coat and a pair of pink pants. —Deborah Belgum
