L.A. Fashion Week Spring '08: Bordeaux
In 2000, Los Angeles–based label Bordeaux started producing tech-savvy garments that were often manufactured without side seams.
In April 2007, the label hired Montserrat Gonzaacute;lezlugo Meacute;ndez, who had worked for Hermegrave;s, to create a fashion-forward European appeal for the brand.
Her first try, the Spring 2008 Bordeaux line, was on display Oct. 24 at a 28-look runway show at the Opera nightclub in Hollywood.
Gonzaacute;lezlugo, who also uses the abbreviated name Monet Lugo, used silhouettes such as 1920s-inspired flapper dresses, halter dresses and jump suits for the upcoming collection. She used silk; chiffon; and, for a little sparkle, some Swarovski crystals.
For bottoms, Bordeaux showed several calf-length leggings constructed using Bordeaux’s seamless garment-manufacturing methods. Some of the leggings came in solid colors of black and brown. Other leggings used a lace-style design, reminiscent of flowers, and came in the bold colors of purple and pink.
For a little Euro-style fun, Gonzaacute;lezlugo produced a top with a vibrant zebra-style animal print. It paid homage to designer Roberto Cavalli, notorious for his giant animal prints, and was meant to be a bit outrageous, Gonzaacute;lezlugo said. For the more discreet woman, the designer used colors such as twilight blue. —Andrew Asch
