Future Fashion

Since 1998, DDCLab, a New York label, has produced contemporary fashion with fabrics that seem to turn convention upside down. On Oct. 25, it held a gallery-style party at its boutique on Los Angeles’ Melrose Avenue to show environmentally minded textiles and performance fabrics. Another reason for the gathering was to raise funds for Charity:Water, a New York–based nonprofit that seeks to bring clean water to impoverished places in the developing world. It auctioned off various pieces of clothing, such as a DDCLab leather-like blazer, pictured at right, which was made out of cork-wood fabric. The company also auctioned off a plaid men’s suit produced by Ingeo. The suit was constructed from material made from corn. —Andrew Asch
