Tt: Luxe Tees From Day to Night

Los Angeles does not want for T-shirt lines. As a Los Angeles–bred girl who worked for Ella Moss and Splendid, Tiffany Saidnia knew this and knew all the players in the T-shirt market. So when Saidnia launched her own line, Tt, she looked for the one niche she thought was unfilled: lasting luxury T-shirts.

Saidnia’s line started as T-shirts “you would wear with your jeans and with a Chanel skirt” and has already attracted the attention of top stores in Los Angeles, starting with Ron Herman.

Saidnia was wearing a T-shirt from her Tt line while shopping at Ron Herman when she ran into buyer John Eshaya, whom she knew from a previous job.

The chance meeting became her first sales appointment. Saidnia said to Eshaya: “Do you have 10 minutes? I have the line in my car.” Ron Herman was the first account to write Tt, according to Saidnia.

Since the line launched for Spring 2007, Tt has been sold at Kate Daniels in Seal Beach, Calif., Los Angeles boutique Milk and multiple Intermix stores.

Interesting fabrics make Tt stand out from other knit lines. Basic bodies with signature triple-binding detail come in a high-grade Supima/Modal blend. One group features a double-sided fabric with shiny rayon on the outside and cotton on the inside. “It’s almost like a slight girdle fabric,” Saidnia said. “The weight of the fabric and the way it’s constructed, it holds you in a little bit in the right places.”

Wholesale price points on basics range from $32 to $82.

For Spring 2008, Saidnia expands Tt beyond the knits foundation from which she started, applying her multifaceted experience to embellished silk party dresses, pencil skirts and embroidered chiffon dresses. Saidnia worked for celebrity stylist Jessica Paster, whose clients include Cate Blanchett, Naomi Watts and Kate Winslet. After her posts at Ella Moss and Splendid, she worked at Pegah Anvarian and then tried her hand at denim at Joe’s Jeans, Henry Duarte and Imitation of Christ.
