L.A. Fashion Week Spring '08: Chick by Nicky Hilton

Chick by Nicky Hilton, the juniors collection created by the hotel heiress and party girl, debuted on Oct. 14 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif. The designer presented her high-end Nicholai line during New York Fashion Week last month.

Hilton said she was inspired by the subtle yet powerful imagery of fairy tales to design her Spring ’08 collection for Chick. The well-thought-out themed collection was young and girly but still smart. Hilton referenced Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White. Sweet little mini-dresses were cute but chic, styled with colorful skinny belts. High-waisted sailor pants, ’60s jacket shapes, denim shorts and tiny halter tops merchandised well together. Allover prints with swans, glass slippers and bitten apples added a fun fantasy element to tote bags, tops and dresses. A palette of red, white, black and light blue characterized the collection and captured the sweet, innocent “Snow White” look.

Although sister Paris could not be at the show, Hilton’s parents, Kathy and Rick, were on hand to lend their support for their daughter’s Los Angeles Fashion Week debut. —N. Jayne Seward
