JCPenney Goes Greener
Plano, Texas–based J.C. Penney Co. Inc., operator of JCPenney stores, has expanded its environmental-initiative program. The company will open a new green store in Denver and will expand its energymanagement program for new and existing JCPenney stores. The Denver store will feature bricks made from waste petroleum byproducts, recycled-content ceiling tiles and carpet made from recycled material. Construction and landscaping materials will be sourced locally to limit the carbon impact of transportation. Energy-efficient lighting will be used inside and out. Low–volatile organic compound paint, adhesives and sealants will be used. And low- and no-consumption plumbing fixtures will be used. The store’s styling salon will also feature high-efficiency Energy Star washers and dryers and ondemand water heaters. All J.C. Penney employees will be encouraged to participate in the retailer’s energy-saving practices and expand its existing recycling programs at all stores and at its headquarters and other operational facilities.
