Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim/Cruise 2009: Belusso

“Project Runway” alum Kirsten Sarkisian presented her Belusso 2009 Spring/Summer collection with a cocktail party and informal modeling on July 20 in the Penthouse of The Raleigh hotel in Miami Beach, Fla. The event was a casual and chic way for the designer to debut her French Riviera–inspired label at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim. Actor Billy Zane, who was in town for business, stopped by for the event. Sarkisian, a former model turned lawyer and now fashion designer, showed a tightly edited collection. Colorful swimwear, tunics and dresses came in Mediterranean shades of orange, turquoise, cocoa, white and black. Swimwear had clean lines, plunging necklines and classic shapes with subtle turquoise, cornelian and coral embellishments. A white “Ibiza” romper and jumpsuit were casually chic, and a tie-dyed “Sardegna” halter dress was sexy, yet elegant. Geometric print tunics added a modern sophistication to complete the collection. —N.J.S.
