Deborah Lindquist to Open Retail Store in No. Hollywood

Eco-friendly designer Deborah Lindquist has found a niche with eco-conscious brides. Lindquist— whose women’s clothing collection is made from recycled cashmere, hemp, organic cotton, organic wool, and repurposed vintage kimonos and saris—plans to open a retail store on Feb. 28 to service a growing bridal clientele. The store will also sell Deborah Lindquist’s collection, which includes recycled cashmere sweaters, dog sweaters, scarves, accessories and gift items.

“I really wanted a place to properly fit brides and special occasions,” Lindquist said. The designer started making custom wedding dresses at the request of brides who sought her out.

Approximately one-third of the 1,400-square-foot space will house the retail storefront. The remaining space will be occupied by Lindquist’s office headquarters and samplemakers. All of the recycled cashmere appliqueacute;s and garments seen in the designer’s cashmere line are cut by hand.

Lindquist uses eco-friendly fabrics such as hemp/silk, organic linen, vintage lace, and beaded cashmere and wool for her custom-made bridal dresses and special-occasion dresses, which are rooted in her signature bustiers.

“They’re coming to me for something less traditional,” said Lindquist, who made wedding dresses out of vintage kimono fabric last summer. “They’re coming to me with their own ideas.” Lindquist said the most expensive wedding dress she has made thus far cost $3,500. Most of the made-to-order special-occasion dresses range from $600 to $900.

The Deborah Lindquist retail store will be located at 10500 Magnolia Blvd. in the North Hollywood arts district in Los Angeles. —Rhea Cortado
