Optitex Venture to Enhance 3-D Applications

CAD provider OptiTex has joined forces with Santa Clara, Calif.–based visual-computing specialist Nvidia to advance research-and-development efforts using 3-D technology.

The partnership will help put OptiTex’s cloth-simulation technology to use within Nvidia’s world of video games, film production, broadcasting and other media.

“By combining our design solution with Nvidia’s unique graphics-processing unit, we’re now at the forefront of bringing more lifelike simulation to video screens worldwide,” said Ran Machtinger, president and chief executive officer of OptiTex, based in Israel.

OptiTex’s 3-D design system will be used with Nvidia’s CUDA technology, whose 240 processor provides an unprecedented level of power, according to Nvidia’s general manager, Andy Keane. Initially, OptiTex’s cloth-simulation functions will be used for video games, film production and broadcasting. It may also lead to advancements for 3-D to be used in producing clothing.

“Our expansion into these markets provides key opportunities to demonstrate the wide range of uses of our technology,” said Gadi Zadikoff, OptiTex’s vice president of research and development. —R.M.
