L.A. Fashion Week Fall '08: Joseph Domingo

Sexy screen sirens, Catwoman and Jessica Rabbit inspired Joseph Domingo’s Fall 2008 collection. The San Francisco–based designer returned to the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif., on March 10 to present his “Vixen” collection. Domingo said he likes to dress women who are confident and strong and not afraid to stand out in the crowd. No problem here, as Domingo turned out curvaceous dresses that left little to the imagination. A red Lycra dress could have been worn by Jessica Rabbit, a black vinyl number looked made for Catwoman and a red pant suit was reminiscent of ’80s icon Alexis Colby from “Dynasty.” Fabrics were an eclectic mix from burnout velvet to leopard prints and lace layered over satin. In addition to the sexier theatrical pieces, the collection included some cocktail dresses in red and black and a chic floor-length coat dress. For men, Domingo played on the ongoing futuristic theme. He created a dark, edgy superhero look—a la “Bladerunner.” The look was focused with clean, tailored lines, shiny fabrics, and skin-tight tops, suits and coats. —N. Jayne Seward
