L.A. Fashion Week Fall '08: Samora
Los Angeles designer Samora Olayan went for a sophisticated, classic look for her Fall ’08 collection, presented on March 13 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif. This was Olayan’s 10th consecutive runway show at fashion week.
Olayan updated classic tweeds, big plaids and herringbones with modern details, showing mod-inspired cropped tweed jackets in teal with big buttons, tweed shorts and pencil skirts. Olayan used mostly French and Italian fabrics in purplish-plum tones, which presented a luxurious finish.
Other standouts were found in exaggerated herringbone patterns on loosely knit sweaters, sweater dresses and jackets. The herringbone pattern continued into a more-classic series with stiff white coats and jackets with stand-away collars that contrasted with her curvier silhouettes.—Robert McAllister
