L.A. Fashion Week Fall '08: Endovanera

Designer David Hershberger sent a collection of sparse menswear down the catwalk March 14 at Boxeight’s opening night in Los Angeles. It was his first runway show since making his catwalk debut at Gen Art last October, and Hershberger said his skinny/somber collection of jeans, backless vests, slouchy knits and crisp outerwear was inspired by “vampires, elves, ninjas and Jedis.”

The collection, which will be produced in extra-small sizes, translates well for women. To illustrate the point, Hershberger sent female models down the catwalk in his tie-waist trousers, layered knits and shrunken blazers. “We sell to some women’s stores, so it makes sense for us. Nearly everything is unisex,” he said.

Standout pieces from the collection include a long jacket with an adjustable strap to cinch the back and cropped skinny pants that channel The Beatles with an added dose of punk rock —Erin Barajas
