Hartmarx, Bioworld Team With NGC for PLM

Product Lifecycle Management software (PLM) continues to be adopted at a brisk rate. Hartmarx’s men’s suiting division, Hart Schaffner & Marx, along with headwear maker Bioworld Merchandising, are among the latest to employ the technology, both enlisting Miami Lakes, Fla.–based New Generation Computing’s e-PLM product.

Hartmarx is also implementing NGC’s shop-floor application, called TPM (“The Production Manager”).

Hartmarx executives said the company’s strategy is to become more agile as well as a stronger partner with its customers. They were looking for a system to help gain more control over its production pipeline.

“We wanted a PLM solution that would transform the product lifecycle and integrate to our enterprise ERP system,” said Shouvik Dutta, Hartmarx’s vice president of information technology. “At the same time, we needed to gain much tighter control of the factory floor.”

Hartmarx produces business, casual, golf and streetwear apparel for men and women under its own stable of brands, including Coppley, Monarchy, One Girl Who, Zooey by alice heller and b.chyll.

BioWorld is implementing e-PLM and e-SPS sourcing software.

The company produces its own product as well as provides designs and samples to licensees. It’s known for its quick cycles, producing product out of China in less than 60 days, President Raj Malik said.

“When you apply this process to hundreds of licensees, each with its own design requirements and multiple SKUs, plus our own private label brands, it’s a very complex business model.”

Malik, with the injection of information technology, hopes to improve operational efficiencies and improve communications throughout the supply chain. For more information, visit www.ngcsoftware.com.—R.M.
