Material World West Includes More Groups

The new Material World West show to be held next year in Los Angeles is bulking up.

Urban Expositions, the Georgia-based organizer of the show, announced May 22 that the trade show will be an official event of the American Apparel & Footwear Association, the apparel and textile trade group based in Arlington, Va. The three-day show is scheduled for Sept. 30–Oct. 2 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

In addition, trend forecasters Pantone and Stylesight will be participating in the show, which will complement the East Coast version of Material World, held every spring in Miami Beach, Fla. The next Material World in Miami Beach is scheduled for April 21–23, 2009.

“The new show will highlight the dynamic and growing West Coast apparel industry to our international partners,” said Kevin Burke, AAFA’s president and chief executive.

Tim von Gal, president of Material World, said his company has been studying the Los Angeles market for the last five years as the ideal spot for a new show featuring textiles, equipment and the supply-side of product development. “The industry has been encouraging us to bring Material World west for many years,” von Gal said.

Ilse Metchek, executive director of the California Fashion Association, a nonprofit group that represents the garment industry, welcomed the show as an addition to other local textile shows. “Material World is more of an international product-development show for the fashion and style industries than it is just a textile show,” she said.
