CMC Showroom Closing After 44 Years

Lee Kreizel sold infants’ and children’s apparel out of her eponymous showroom at the California Market Center since 1964. On Nov. 21 she closed her doors for the last time, citing the closure of three of her lines as the impetus for her retirement. In her time at the CMC, which was originally called the CaliforniaMart, Kreizel saw the building grow from what is now referred to as the “B building” to the three-building complex it is today. “There have been big changes [in the apparel industry],” she said. “A lot of the buyers and stores I once worked with are no longer around. The CaliforniaMart was the most important place in the whole industry. There was no Las Vegas, no Seattle. If buyers wanted something, they had to come to the Mart.” —Erin Barajas
